To Mars and Beyond! Launching a New Season of TD Amplify Cabarets

In a parallel universe, humanity calls the strange and unforgiving planet Mars home. Meals come in pill form and flying cars are a ubiquitous part of our lives. In this odd mirror world, a talk show flickers to life on a low-resolution television. This is the vision of lo-fi futures from the creative genius of the award-winning Sargeant x Comrade, TD Incubator Fellows and the artistic leaders of the 22-23 season of the TD Amplify Cabaret series.

Revisioned as a talk show in space, complete with engaging guest interviews and a retro-futuristic vibe, Mars: Second Home takes the daring first step in a season that promises to be full of out-of-this-world performances and transportive surprises. Of course, none of this would be possible without a cast of interdisciplinary creatives on the cutting edge of their individual practices. Cue the newly announced 22-23 TD Incubator cohort. Five of these ground-breaking artists will be featured in this first cabaret of the season, including a conversation with Jae Sterling and Contra and live performances by cellist Jenny Crane, multi-instrumentalist Kue Varo, and visual spacewalks by projection artist Mackenzie Bedford. It’s time to journey into the uncanny valley and see just what our future has in store.

“As an emerging artist TD Incubator, and with it the TD Amplify Cabaret, is a wellspring of equipment, mentorship and opportunity,” says Mackenzie Bedford. “However, what's more exciting is the cohort of amazing artists along for the ride beside me! This city has a collaborative, tight-knit interdisciplinary arts community, and it's an honour to find space to grow with them.”

"We're really happy to be working with this select group of artists - we can't wait to see what they come up with." Says Evgeniy "Comrade" Bykovets. Yolanda Sargeant adds: "The artists we've chosen are going to inspire each other - and they're all so different, which is why we think the variety show format is the best way to present them."
