Notice. Wonder. Make. Pumpkin Paper Craft

Looking for a seasonal craft that you can do with your family? This stain glass paper pumpkin craft will brighten up your home (without having to dig through pumpkin guts!).

This series of fun educational activities and projects aim to help you cultivate curiosity and creativity in your children using arts-based learning, inspired by the same learning techniques and activities used in the award-winning ConocoPhillips Hub for Inspired Learning program. Each activity is designed to be simple, for you to do in your own home and immediate neighbourhood.

SUPPLIES

  • Watercolour paper/heavier paper

  • Watercolour paints and paint brush

  • Painter’s tape or masking tape

  • Black sharpie

  • Black Acrylic Paint

  • Pumpkin template with tracing paper or hand drawn pumpkin to trace

  • Practice piece of paper for flowers

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Place paper down on hard surface and tape paper down creating a tape border

  2. Using a paint brush put water all over paper (Wet on wet watercolour technique)

  3. Pick three colours to use and begin to cover paper with watercolour paint.

  4. While the watercolour paint dries, practice some flower shapes on a practice sheet.

  5. When ready, use a black sharpie to draw flowers on the watercolour paper, filling in all the space.

  6. Trace pumpkin onto paper and outline in black sharpie

  7. Using black acrylic paint, paint around the edges of the pumpkin. Let dry!

  8. Fill in any holes that you see in the flowers with the black sharpie. This will help the flowers pop!

  9. Once the painting is fully dry, pull back the tape. *Pull tape away from you to help prevent ripping.

This craft can be modified for any holiday or time of year. Use red and green colours at Christmas, trace a rabbit for Easter, or bring in those springtime flowers for May—the possibilities are endless!
