Five Things You Didn't Know About Judith Hill

Judith Hill has already proven herself to be a powerhouse vocalist and top-of-the-line performer. But behind the glitz of The Mechanic and the glam of Baby I'm Hollywood, this musician has an equally robust resume. Here are five things you may not know about Judith Hill.

She's the daughter of Robert Lee "Pee Wee" Hill

Both of Hill's parents were talented musicians in their own right, but you might recognize her father, Robert Lee "Pee Wee" Hill, for another reason. He was the bassist in Billy Preston's band –– the renowned R&B, rock, soul, & funk singer who is the only outside musician to be given credit on a Beatles recording.

Judith often found famous musicians around the house - whether she knew it or not

As a side effect of her father being in Preston's band, the musician (and others) frequently visited the Hill household. “I was young so I didn’t realize what a big deal it was having those musicians around the house. I mean, now I’m like ‘That was f*cking Billy Preston,’” says Hill in an interview with SPIN.

Her first album was supported by Prince

It's often said that Hill was Prince's protégé, but that's not entirely correct. Rather, she was a Prince collaborator. After expressing interest in working with Prince in an interview she gave for season 4 of The Voice, he reached out to her personally, resulting in her first solo album Back In Time.

Micheal Jackson's not the only musician she sang with

In addition to her infamous duet on MJ's ballad, “I Just Can’t Stop Loving You,” Hill has worked as a background singer for such legends as Stevie Wonder and Ringo Starr.

She performed at the United Nations

Most recently, Hill performed at the United Nations General Assembly. "A powerful moment of unity as the world comes together to address the Sustainable Development Goals and provide solutions for society and our environment," she captions a recent Instagram post. "Truly grateful to share in this beautiful space."

Judith Hill performs with Arts Commons Presents and PCL Blues on September 30 & October 1. Get your tickets now!
