The high-energy, extremely danceable Respect is the title track on Otis Redding’s milestone record released in 1965. The huge success of this record set the groundwork for some many future collaborations between Otis Redding and Booker T. & the M.G.’s, including the very notable next track on our list.

The deceptively simple, completely timeless Green Onions an unmistakable classic. It has been featured in no less than 16 movies including classics like American Graffiti and The Sandlot as well as more the more recent X-Men: First Class and Legend.

In a blink and you missed it moment from the first Shrek movie, Donkey tries to appeal to Shrek’s romantic side with this little gem. The version that Donkey is referencing was recorded in 1966 by Otis Redding, with, guess who backing him up? Booker T. & the M.G.'s.

Though Shrek brought this catchy track to the modern animation landscape, you have to hear it performed live to truely appreciate it.

Respect, Green Onions, and Try a Little Tenderness only scratch the surface of the catalogue of hits Booker T. and the M.G.’s have had a hand in over the years. Check out our Spotify playlist to hear Time is Tight, Born Under a Bad Sign and so much more!
