Theatre Calgary Takes the Stage with Million Dollar Quartet

A familiar face has returned to Theatre Calgary! Thom Allison is back, but this time as the director of the award-winning hit musical, Million Dollar Quartet. A favourite to Theatre Calgary audiences, Thom has lit up our stage numerous times, including The Louder We Get, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, Evita, Cabaret, and Berlin to Broadway with Kurt Weill. In between those productions, he has appeared on Broadway in Priscilla, Queen of the Desert and in the original Canadian companies of Miss Saigon, The Who’s Tommy and Rent. On TV, you’ve probably seen him on Frankie Drake Mysteries, Hudson & Rex, Murdoch Mysteries, Kim’s Convenience, and in his Canadian Screen Award-winning role of “Pree” on Killjoys.

The Inside Track on the World Premiere of Ragtime: A Concert Performance

Something monumental is coming this June for Calgary arts fans - Arts Commons, the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra, and Theatre Calgary are coming together for an unprecedented creative collaboration. In three performances, Ragtime: A Concert Presentation will merge the songs of the smash-hit Broadway musical with the renowned acoustics of the Jack Singer Concert Hall on June 11 & 12, 2022.

The Tale of Two Scrooges - A Christmas Carol returns with two casts this holiday season

Theatre Calgary is thrilled to welcome A Christmas Carol back to the Max Bell Theatre beginning November 30th, celebrating the 35th year of Calgary’s beloved holiday tradition.

For the 2021 production, Theatre Calgary will perform Geoffrey Simon Brown’s abridged adaptation of Dickens’ classic novel. Audiences will get a chance to see two different casts of three actors showcase their enormous talents and skills as they bring numerous characters in the story to life.

The Family Behind Season of Gratitude

Long-time patrons of Arts Commons, as well as avid supporters of the arts, Rodney and Karen McCann along with their family, wanted to find a meaningful way to give back to our essential workers who have given so much to get us safely through the pandemic. The idea that they came up with, in collaboration with Arts Commons, is the Season of Gratitude program which aims to bring essential workers to productions by the Resident Companies of Arts Commons.

Theatre Calgary takes Shakespeare on the Go!

For 2021, the traditional Shakespeare by the Bow is being re-imagined and going on the road in a fun and safe way. Theatre Calgary, in partnership with The Shakespeare Company and Hit & Myth Productions, will be taking their emerging artists to a variety of Calgary locations for the public to enjoy during the month of August. This year's Shakespeare on the Go will allow Theatre Calgary to reach out, in a new way, to more communities and people of Calgary and surrounding areas.
