Theatre Calgary Takes the Stage with Million Dollar Quartet

A familiar face has returned to Theatre Calgary! Thom Allison is back, but this time as the director of the award-winning hit musical, Million Dollar Quartet. A favourite to Theatre Calgary audiences, Thom has lit up our stage numerous times, including The Louder We Get, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, Evita, Cabaret, and Berlin to Broadway with Kurt Weill. In between those productions, he has appeared on Broadway in Priscilla, Queen of the Desert and in the original Canadian companies of Miss Saigon, The Who’s Tommy and Rent. On TV, you’ve probably seen him on Frankie Drake Mysteries, Hudson & Rex, Murdoch Mysteries, Kim’s Convenience, and in his Canadian Screen Award-winning role of “Pree” on Killjoys.

The Tale of Two Scrooges - A Christmas Carol returns with two casts this holiday season

Theatre Calgary is thrilled to welcome A Christmas Carol back to the Max Bell Theatre beginning November 30th, celebrating the 35th year of Calgary’s beloved holiday tradition.

For the 2021 production, Theatre Calgary will perform Geoffrey Simon Brown’s abridged adaptation of Dickens’ classic novel. Audiences will get a chance to see two different casts of three actors showcase their enormous talents and skills as they bring numerous characters in the story to life.

Theatre Calgary takes Shakespeare on the Go!

For 2021, the traditional Shakespeare by the Bow is being re-imagined and going on the road in a fun and safe way. Theatre Calgary, in partnership with The Shakespeare Company and Hit & Myth Productions, will be taking their emerging artists to a variety of Calgary locations for the public to enjoy during the month of August. This year's Shakespeare on the Go will allow Theatre Calgary to reach out, in a new way, to more communities and people of Calgary and surrounding areas.

Transforming a Tradition

For Theatre Calgary, A Christmas Carol is a one of the most anticipated and cherished family events in our city every year. For 33 years, Charles Dickens’ ghost story of the transformation of Ebenezer Scrooge has made it’s way from the old QR Centre, to the Arts Commons Max Bell Theatre. This year however, it has made another move…into the homes of audiences near and far with a filmed digital production.
